Cause Profile
Refilwe Bophelo Clinic was founded in this area in January 2013 by a retired nurse Sr Didi Mojapelo to provide an affordable and accessible medical sevice to the local communities.

Refilwe Bophelo Clinic is a Primary Health Care Clinic based at Refilwe Community Project, Lanseria. We are not under the umbrella of Refilwe Community Project, but work closely with them to render services to the local disadvantaged informal settlements. The nearest government clinic is over 18kms away, which presents a challenge to our community as many of them do not have regular income or available transport. Many people on chronic medications end up defaulting, and children in the area have not been fully immunised due to the distance they need to walk to get services.

Refilwe Bophelo Clinic was founded in this area to provide an affordable medical service to the local communities. One of our beliefs is that medical care should not be denied to any, so services are provided even if the patients are unable to afford our small fee. Many of our patients come from Joe Slovo informal settlement, Malatji informal settlement, Kom Kom farms, Makepies farm, Chicken Pie, Costane and St. Ansgars High School, located across the road. We offer Youth Friendly service and support groups for students from the school which meets weekly. The pregnancy rate has reduced since we have started engaging with the students doing workshops on  Education and Contraceptive methods.

We also have a support group for the elderly people where we give them food parcels and they meet once a month, those who can are doing knitting and crotchetting. This items are being sold to generate income for them to buy toiletries and some groceries. For those on chronic medication the caregivers visit them regularly to ensure that they are taking their medication correctly and to encourage them to return to the clinic for check-ups and to collect the next dose of medication. Sister Didi goes out with the caregivers twice a week to check on the progress of patients.
